Winnie the Pooh (2011)
Written by Burny Mattinson, et al.
Directed by Stephen J. Anderson & Don Hall
Like The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, from 34 years before, I find myself, obviously, not being the target audience of this film, and also much more conscious of that than some of the other films in this marathon.
Having said that, I really loved this film.
There are many stylistic choices that merge it with its predecessor, especially the feature I loved most: the ability of the film, and its characters, to move in and out of the book in which it takes place. Characters literally interact with the words on the page, and it’s so refreshing to see, in an almost unexplainable way.
The plot is a little more focused here than in the original, with more of a through-line plot (or two) than the series of vignettes in the original. There’s also much catchier music (as catchy as music can be in a Winnie the Pooh film).
The downside of the film is the reason this review is so short: it’s barely an hour long. It’s not the shortest of the films, but just barely.
It’s a great little film, that tells a fun story while sneaking in a healthy dose of nostalgia, as well.
