The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977)
Written by Larry Clemmons, et al.
Directed by John Lounsbery & Wolfgang Reitherman
I think I’m one of the few people that have never seen anything about Winnie the Pooh. I mean, I know the characters and stuff, but I have never stopped and actually watched anything about this franchise.
My initial thoughts are, this would have been super cute if I was a kid. Not that it isn’t cute, but, more than any of the other films I’ve watched in this on-going marathon, I feel that I am older than the target audience.
Oh well!!
This was really a unique film, surprisingly so. There’s been quite a few of these films that have the traditional “storybook” opening, but the film plays with that just a little bit, by jumping in and out of the book. It was very clever, and reminded me of being read to by someone. The film itself is actually pretty meta, in that sense, in that the characters and narrator constantly reference the book they’re in.
I’ve known about the characters for a long time, but now, having watched a full feature with them, I find Tigger to be very charming, and Pooh to be SASSY AS HELL. I love it!
Overall, this simple film doesn’t give me a lot to talk about, but that’s okay, because I found it to be very sweet and nostalgia-inducing, something the best Disney films do well.
